Landed on 03/1997 on H1B. Didn't file for GC until 2003 as plan was to work for 2-3 years, get into an MBA program, and then go back.
MBA resulted in loans of $120K which in turn meant spending some more time in the US which resulted in buying a house which resulted in even bigger loan.
Now living the American "dream" on EAD.
You must be earning more than the debts you have from MBA per year. With that you should have paid the loans.

Stop sending money to parents and in-laws, if its possible. Otherwise, maintain parity by sending money in small amounts to both parents. Its stupid to say my wife is not working so she has no business to send money to her parents. Its so wrong and I'm surprised folks can think like this. Marriage is about sharing and even a child will tell you that. If the in-laws are any sensible they won't accept gifts from the son-in-law but its for them to decide.And stop receiving any gifts from either sides.

thanks! thats encouraging..they already gave us a conditional approval last week asking for some documents, which I sent immediately. They didn't even open my documents for a week, and then the underwriter came back asking for some more things including this I94..these people are crazy! Today's my deadline and i still haven't heard anything

reddog, please explain how you have supported IV in the past in non-monetary ways. For lobbying, there is not much you can do other than support monetarily,or make trips to DC yourself.
I am sure IV core will at least consider such non-monetary support on case-by-case basis.

Everyone passes this stage. I was in the same boat sometime back and I did not think about applying for greencard.
When I reached 4.5years in my H1, my debts were not decreased. Infact it increased as I invested in India and in some tangile properties in US. So I thought I should stay here for more time to clear those debts. To stay for more time, I needed this stupid GC. It was needed atleast to extend my H1 to start with.
So my piece of advice for you is to start this process as it is not going to hurt you when you are mentally prepared to leave US. If you get it, it is good. If you dont get it, you have nothing to lose. At least you will the option to extend your H1 if you decide to stay for more time.
I am one of those guys who entered US in a very late age (I am 35 now...) and haven't even started the Green Card process yet. I wonder everyday "if" and when the process gets started..how many years it would take to get GC (may be 5 to 6 years..correct me if I am wrong)...and after getting the GC..wait for another 5+ years to get Citizenship...I will be close to 50...ouch

I just wish..if I can spin the time wheel back...I would never think of a foreign country....(even though I am new to US..I spent about 8 years abroad in other countries already)..
I don't feel like concluding..hence leaving this incomplete...

Inspite of the new spillover policy and the additional FB visa's the EB2-I has retrogressed. This shows there is quite a bit of EB2-I demand. Regarding EB3I movement, donno when it will come out of the 2001 slump. The actual bulletin might show the ROW movement that could provide some hint to how the spillover can influence the EB2I forward movements.

It will be great if everyone who comes to IV contributes. That would be the ideal case scenario. But I think if there were specific donation drives like the one that is on going, then I believe a lot of people who believe in that cause would contribute and others who dont, wont!
Now, in this donor's only club that IV is proposing to have, what does the core have in mind. Is that going to be a forum where exclusive information is provided? What is the incentive for a "donor" to visit the general public forum? If the "donor"s dont visit the general forum arent you effectively killing off the general forum?
Like I had posted earlier, what stops a donor from making whatever is there in the donors only forum made available to everyone? Isnt this going to cause more divisions within IV?
Instead of forum for donors wouldnt it make more sense to have additional features made available to donors? Say, like having the ability to ask questions to a immigration lawyer or if any lawmaker is ready to answer quetions, the ability to post questions to them. This data will be sought by all of us but if we are not ready to support the effort, it will be tough to invest in it. The subscriptions will help us continue IV initiatives with more zeal and we will know that a lot of members support us.

SO,can we all try to get the unused visas recaptured.If they can do that for nurses and physical therapists ,they can do that to decrease retrogression.I dont think they require senate approval.

Every time we work on a bill we move a step forward. We have come a long way in the past 2 years. Some bills came and went and did not bring us any relief but that should not stop us from working hard when we see the next window of opportunity.

To be fair - India definitely has a competitive K-12 system because they are not all public schools (for free) like here. So the people who do get into IITs and RECs already have an edge.
Having said that - the Indian college education like Gayatri said is not as rigorous as it is here (and I am NOT talking about the IITs).
People pay a lot to go to college in the US and hence are generally more serious about their education. Fact is, a plumber can also make a good living here without a college degree. Its only those who can pay and are interested go to college. Ethical issues like copyright/plagiarism are also taken more seriously here and students are trained in critical thinking.
In all I think both nations have good and bad. I have to READ Wadhwa's report to understand what he is trying to convey. All I heard was 'apples and oranges and pineapples' from his talk.
