First of all, forget about back firing, can we get 100 people to do this. IV has been trying for funds and i dont think even 10% have contributed..why would u think any one would loose a pay day? even if you take 20$/hour i.e 160$ per day. Lot of members are not ready to contribute 50 bucks :) There might be a few who can not contribute due to various reasons and i totally sympathize with them but what about the remaining?

Thanks a bunch for all of you who contributed today, I read each and every post and felt very content that atleast there are people who feel the same way like I feel. IV is the only org that stands for us. It is time to strengthen it, Most of you have no idea how much money is really needed for lobbying, and how far it can take us if each of us contributed a little every month.

I looked up the link http://judiciary.senate.gov/schedule.cfm and it indicates something else. However, there is a remote possibility that CIR might be discussed as one of the witness is congressman james Sensenbrenner who was the sponsor of the house bill. Lets keep fingers crossed:)

We have received cards yesterday. It took one week from approval of I-485 to Physical cards. We are happy at the end everything went well. I wish all of our friends best of luck for all their immigration wishes.
<I>Note: I noticed that physical cards envelope does not have any USCIS stamp or from address. After seeing that I thought it is some credit card company mail and kept away(didn't through out). Later when we opened, there are cards in it. This is just to let other know(F.Y.I) envelope does not remind any USCIS.</I>

My wife is on H4, i'm on H1B. She applied for DL renewal and was renewed for 1 yr.
They accepted visa, passport, i-94, and H4 renewal receipt notice.
They gave her one year from receipt notice.
What a relief. i was worried they would not accept it.
That was in Sterling VA DMV.:)
My wife was on H4 but now on H1/Opt. We went to DMV (Sterling, VA) . They checked the passport but did not check anything else. They renewed DL for 5 years instead of 3 years. Not sure what happened but she looked at the passport. I did not offer any other document because she did not ask.

Guys, please continue to leave voice messages, emailing & faxing those idiots at Atlanta PERM center who moved the staff to do other work like processing h2b cases. We need to be persistent if we need any positive outcome. Would those idiots who reassigned staff to do other work, now turn around and help us be reassigining more staff to clear the backlogs? We need to keep questioning them and bombard them with emails, fax and phone calls. It is very important that we act now, if not you all know how delicate of situation we are all finding ourselves in. Looking through the ammendments, one that stuck out was about the drunk driving conviction. The ammendment makes it a deportable crime. Well, not that we would ever be stupid enough to drink and drive. But, if you do, and you get caught, be aware of the serious implications it may have.

If u applied 485 in June 07 u might have already been alloted a visa number...Call uscis to find out...A nicer IO may give u some details abt your case

Why not do a flower campaign or the like, that we did last time? Clearly that worked and the phone campaign doesnt "have the appearance" of working. I am not saying it is not working, it just isint having the same media impact as last time. It doesnt have to be the flower campaign again, heck we can do a fruit basket deal this time.
Our message should be "Please stop punishing people that came here the right way, in order to help the people that did not". We are not against undocumented workers getting amnesty, we just dont want their issues to hold up everyone else's.
There are reasons we MUST NOT do anything like that. Lobbying works on the long run. These days lawmmakers are more informed about the situation and it is just a matter of time.
Do not lose hope - we will succeed.
Please convince your friends and coworkers to make phone calls and visits to law makers offices.

Just a question. Why would you file jointly if your wife doesn't work (i.e. doesn't have SSN)?

Simple answer - More standard deduction with one more dependant as wife
IRS made it mandatory to use SSN because illegal immigrants use ITIN to file taxes. This affected the legal immigrants also where ITIN is used in case of dependants who dont have work visa. If you are not legally eligible to work, you dont get SSN.
The two options left for legal immigrants are -
File separate returns one for self with ssn and another for wife using ITIN and calim one stimulus rebate for 600$
but then you get single standard deduction and your AGI is more that affects your federal and state tax.
If you do the math, its better to file a joint return and forego the stimulus rebate.
There is a catch too, if wife later gets EAD and thus SSN, you can ammend your tax return and claim the stimuls rebate

Just EB2 to EB3 and mention that processing of I-140's has nothing to do with the category you are in. Only at I-485 stage the category is important to obtain a immigrant visa from DOS. So make appropriate changes and feel free to modify the letter to suit your situation.

I studied in IIT (B.Tech), got M.S. and Ph.D. from here and now a professor. My observations/opinions are as follows:

I have the misfortune of teaching 100's of students who come here with an Anna University (or Osmania) B.Tech./B.E. degree in engineering, and knows absolutely nothing. And I am not exaggerating: they cannot write an elementary program in any language (apparently they learn something called "theoretical" computer programming in which they do not actually learn to program); does not know any mathematics (most cannot integrate x*exp(x); one student could not tell me what is f(0.7) by looking at a graph of x vs. f(x)) and cannot operate simple lab equipments. It is just unbelievable! Anyway, moving on.
I am not sure why people jump onto drawing conclusions so fast...look at the above post from a so called professor....he encountered a couple of a folks from some universities & concludes that those universities are just crappy....!! Many of my colleagues are from the professors' "oh-so-good" list of IITs/univs and they are no better!! (In fact, some of them suck so bad)!!

Now another question for you prof....how come are you working in a university that's giving admissions to such a bunch of crappy folks...!!??
