I am confused about receipt date?
Is receipt date the date when they do data entry into the system or is it the date when they receive the package even though they may do data entry a month later?
My application was sent on June, 14th and delivered on June 15th (I have the FedEx tracking info and signature page confirming 6/15).
The case status online based on receipt number (obtained by calling them a few times until I got lucky) says:
"On July 11, 2007, we received this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case."
Not sure if the online status is referring to the receipt date or the notice date when it says "On July 11, 2007, we received" when, in fact, they received it on June 15th!!

July 2nd filers can expect their receipts by Friday(8/10) or Monday(8/13). It will take 3 days for them to just process July 2nd receipts.

the numbers may be exaggerated, but it doesnot change the facts..
even if we agree that its going to be 500k with 15-20% of them being indians, we still have a long wait ahead of us.
Rather than fighting among ourselves, we should channel our frustration/anger towards the fight for :
adding back unused visa numbers,
increase in GC numbers.
We can express our support to Senator Lofgren or whoever is leading this effort.
While we enjoy the interim benefits, our fight for permanent solution should not be obscured by it.
even if we agree that its going to be 500k with 15-20% of them being indians, we still have a long wait ahead of us.

No, they did not take the original offline...it was there online in archived sections. They may be getting calls seeing the current one and the archived one....so they thought to clarify (making us read both of them together). That is all.
{hmm....that makes me think...did USCIS complain to DOS that they are still receiving 485's and that the old bulletin still exists online. So, DOS found this solution....Just my 0.02

But when they revised it on July 2nd they took the original VB offline. Now they bring the original VB back online and they are asking folks look at both of them together.

For all those who are upset with the House hearing, please take it easy. Please do not expect the hearing to discuss the details of each and every GC applicant's case. The objective of the hearing was to bring the folks involved in visa bulletins and GC processing, and make them all publically say and agree that Lofgren-Sensenbrenner bill will not flood the country with new people on the borders but at the same time since the federal agencies did not do their job properly, so it would make sense to recapture the visa numbers, and that's it.
I think that this objective was achieved pretty handsomely without much opposition. So everybody was on the same page, other than Ranking member King, whose job in such meetings is to oppose whatever the committee chair is proposing. Rep. King did not have much to say as Rep. Sensenbrenner has co-sponsored the bill. Noticeably, Rep. Gutierrez supported the bill, which means Hispanic Caucus may not oppose it either, hopefully. So it was all good.

I just registered for IV. I wish I could come to DC rally on 18th. But due to certain unavoidable circumstances I may not be able too. Most people here in this forum have no clue what is happening. We can keep on argueing that skilled immigrants add value, innovation etc... but do not understand how politicians think. Senator Schumer talks about products and innovations - he doees it because our opposition has lobbied successfully and convinced the politicians. Products and innvoations do not happen by one person but, they evolve. Most of the big products were not developed by one person, but were developed because of teams, implementations, exchange of ideas etc..... Everyone in the supply chain is very important. If there are restrictions just to satisfy anti immigrants and their beliefs, then it will harm competitiveness.
What is the point in having a bunch of managers when there is no one who is doing actual work?

I would rather prefer to hire someone who has a beautiful resume with different projects rather than selecting someone who as been at a single place for 10 years who has no clue how outside world looks. Do not trust the Indian American community to help new immigrants. The Indian American community is a FAT community with a lot of money and will care least for new immigrants. In fact they may work against us because they would not like to make it easy for us to compete. Those who are suffering are on their own. The community must realise and come forward.
Do you have it in you? If yes, come forward today, build your community, make it stronger and lobby hard - there is a lot of hard work to be done

My wife is still waiting for the AP. The receipt notice gives August 6 as the receipt date. She called USCIS last Tuesday and was told that USCIS is running really slow and is taking 180 days to process APs. The lady she spoke to asked my wife to call back after "it is 180 days past her notice date". Her 180 days will complete on February 6. We have postponed out travel plans several times.

Hi,
I talked to my lawyer and she didn't mention about any kind of delay so can you please give me some more details about this PIM and how does it affect the whole process and slow things down.

scorion PIM process is a new additional step that is now part of visa stamping process. if you read around here you will find out more about it but in short uscis office in kentucy has to scan and upload all your supporting documents i.e employement letter etc that you might have used to get an H1 approval. The embassy you will visit for visa stamping has to review all the uploaded doc's before stamping your visa. Now I read in one of the thread here that someone in chennai has been stuck for over 3 to 4 weeks after their visa intvw just because the PIM process is not done. Hope this helps. Everyone passes this stage. I was in the same boat sometime back and I did not think about applying for greencard.
When I reached 4.5years in my H1, my debts were not decreased. Infact it increased as I invested in India and in some tangile properties in US. So I thought I should stay here for more time to clear those debts. To stay for more time, I needed this stupid GC. It was needed atleast to extend my H1 to start with.
So my piece of advice for you is to start this process as it is not going to hurt you when you are mentally prepared to leave US. If you get it, it is good. If you dont get it, you have nothing to lose. At least you will the option to extend your H1 if you decide to stay for more time.
I am one of those guys who entered US in a very late age (I am 35 now...) and haven't even started the Green Card process yet. I wonder everyday "if" and when the process gets started..how many years it would take to get GC (may be 5 to 6 years..correct me if I am wrong)...and after getting the GC..wait for another 5+ years to get Citizenship...I will be close to 50...ouch
Well, as of today I don't feel like applying for GC...I realized my dream of coming and working in US...now the plan is to spend 4 to 5 years, clear my debts (yeah......running into thousands of dollars)...make some money to live peacefully in India..thats it....then go back to India....
And its not just the family or friends...95% of my cousins and 90% of my friends are in US (trust me it is a large number)..except for parents and in-laws (and uncles, aunts)...every one is here...but I hardly get a chance to meet them...b'cos no one wants to take some time off to meet cousins/friends (unless you are in drivable distance)..I don't blame them (or me)..since we all want to save our PTO to visit India....
I just wish..if I can spin the time wheel back...I would never think of a foreign country....(even though I am new to US..I spent about 8 years abroad in other countries already)..
I don't feel like concluding..hence leaving this incomplete...
